Doctor of Science in Holistic Nutrition (DSC)
From the Program Director
Dear Prospective Student,
Thank you for your interest in our Doctor of Science program in Holistic Nutrition. If you have a passion for nutrition and a curious mind, you'll love this program. This curriculum blends the latest nutrition research and knowledge of physiology with current concepts and controversies in nutrition. You'll be exposed to a variety of resources and experts to give you a deeper understanding of how nutrition and lifestyle affect health and disease. This is not a “theoretical” program; it's practical so that you can implement what you learn. You'll learn about nutrition policies, how our environment impacts us, and the interconnected web of our body systems. In addition you'll have the opportunity to focus on your own specific interests.
As part of the Hawthorn community you'll discuss and debate all sides of the issues, so that your own opinions unfold naturally. The level of comprehension provided will give you the depth of knowledge and confidence to network with other nutrition and health care professionals.
This program is designed for people who think critically and are self-motivated. You may be in mid-career - in health care or another field or this may be for your first career. The field of nutrition is diverse and career opportunities lead in many directions. As a nutrition educator, whether you want to focus on a specific area of nutrition, do writing, lecturing, corporate wellness, environmental health, or to add a new dimension to your clinical practice, you'll find this program meets your needs.
The word “diet” comes from the Latin word “dieta” which means a “way of life” or a “manner of living”. At Hawthorn, we give you the tools to transform your own life and the lives of people you touch. I look forward to working with you, and helping you fulfill your dreams.
Best Regards,
